Keywords Your Customers Find You With

Are you making the most of the resources you have at hand? Do you check your website stats regularly? Do you know where your traffic comes from? If you aren't checking your stats, you're probably missing out on some juicy info that could potentially put sales in your affiliate accounts.

Here's a little screen-shot of my current rankings for the Weight Loss site I published on February 6th this year.

Now I knew I could get good rankings for my main keywords (after all I used SSEO). I also knew I would get some pretty decent rankings for secondary keywords and some of the LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) terms I used in my website content.

No.1 in Google and MSN and No.2 in Yahoo for my main keyword, then a bunch of 2nd's, 3rd's, 4th's, all the way to 7. Plus a whole load more from 11 - 50, but I'm only going to concentrate on Top 10's.

I was pretty much expecting these and about a week after the site went live I had a pretty good idea of other keywords my customers were using to find me. How? My domain stats. I check these every couple of days and usually come up with a couple of nuggets I hadn't really targeted. So where do these come from?

Log-on to your domain hosting CPanel. Click on the stats program you use (in my case AWStats) and scroll down to the bottom till you see this:

awststs

This gives you a list of terms (along with numbers and percentages) which are the keywords your visitors are finding you from. These are the terms people are typing into search engines and these are the REAL keywords your customers find you with.

Not all of these will be great traffic generators. Pretty sure you'll find a couple of decent nuggets though. Keywords you just hadn't thought off.

My logic on this is pretty simple. If my website can get to No.6 in Google for a keyword phrase I hadn't even though off, how far can I go if I bang in a couple of articles, blog posts and actually optimize the relevant site page to reflect this keyword phrase as well? See what I mean about nuggets. My customers are telling me HOW they find my site...

Keywords your customers use to find you and keywords you probably rank well for already but just didn't know it. Check back to the screen-shot at the top and there are 6 keywords there I hadn't even considered and which are ALL showing my site in the Top 10 results across Google, Yahoo and MSN. An extra 6 Top 10 listings. Not a bad deal.

Why not use them to your best advantage. After all, probably the easiest sales you will EVER make.

About Me

paxtons marketing group

Internet Marketing, as with any other business, is all about taking a series of small steps, that combined, work out to a successful business.

It's not necessarily about re-inventing stuff, but it's certainly not about blindly following other people either.

I've done a lot of dumb things in my life, including taking a ride in a Tupolev Strategic Bomber (THE most terrifying thing I've ever experienced), but one thing I've always done well is "taking care of business".

Internet Marketing is a Business. It's not a hobby and for sure, it's not something you can devote a couple of hours a week to and expect to see any kind of results.

Treat it like a hobby, you get hobby returns. Treat it like a business and you get business results.

I've always been good at testing stuff and analyzing results. It probably has something to do with the way my brain is wired, but it made me a very good living for 25 years, and is standing me in good stead in my online ventures. I actually like testing stuff....

I've found a lot of stuff that works, a lot of tactics and tips that generate a nice income for me and managed to find some nice tools to use.

My sincere hope is to pass you some of these tactics and tips and kick-start your Internet Marketing career as well.

Hell, we might even have a bit of fun along the way.
