Keywords Your Customers Find You With
Are you making the most of the
resources you have at hand? Do you check your website stats
regularly? Do you know where your traffic comes from? If you
aren't checking your stats, you're probably missing out on some
juicy info that could potentially put sales in your affiliate
accounts.
Here's a little screen-shot of my current
rankings for the Weight Loss site I published on February 6th
this year.

Now I knew I could get good rankings for my
main keywords (after all I used SSEO). I also knew I would get
some pretty decent rankings for secondary keywords and some of
the LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) terms I used in my website
content.
No.1 in Google and MSN and No.2 in Yahoo for
my main keyword, then a bunch of 2nd's, 3rd's, 4th's, all the
way to 7. Plus a whole load more from 11 - 50, but I'm only
going to concentrate on Top 10's.
I was pretty much expecting these and about
a week after the site went live I had a pretty good idea of
other keywords my customers were using to find me. How? My
domain stats. I check these every couple of days and usually
come up with a couple of nuggets I hadn't really targeted. So
where do these come from?
Log-on to your domain hosting CPanel. Click
on the stats program you use (in my case AWStats) and scroll
down to the bottom till you see this:

This gives you a list of terms (along with
numbers and percentages) which are the keywords your visitors
are finding you from. These are the terms people are typing
into search engines and these are the REAL keywords your
customers find you with.
Not all of these will be great traffic
generators. Pretty sure you'll find a couple of decent nuggets
though. Keywords you just hadn't thought off.
My logic on this is pretty simple. If my
website can get to No.6 in Google for a keyword phrase I hadn't
even though off, how far can I go if I bang in a couple of
articles, blog posts and actually optimize the relevant site
page to reflect this keyword phrase as well? See what I mean
about nuggets. My customers are telling me HOW they
find my site...
Keywords your customers use to find you and
keywords you probably rank well for already but just didn't
know it. Check back to the screen-shot at the top and there are
6 keywords there I hadn't even considered and which are ALL
showing my site in the Top 10 results across Google, Yahoo and
MSN. An extra 6 Top 10 listings. Not a bad deal.
Why not use them to your best advantage.
After all, probably the easiest sales you will EVER
make.
