The Importance of Back Links

Back Links play a crucial role in your website rankings and SEO. Learn about the importance of back links and how these help your website rankings.

Back links are like a popularity poll for your website. The more back links you have, the more popular your website becomes and the more ways the search engines have to find your site and content.

There are a lot of factors the search engines take into consideration when it comes to determining the value of your website and how high this should rank.

On page factors are totally within your control and include all the elements you present on your pages. These are all outlined in my SSEO report. Off page factors in determining your website rankings are more difficult to determine and quantify. One factor that can be measures though is the number of other websites linking to yours.

Each of these links is called a back link.

Back links could come from blogs pointing to your sites, author bios in articles you've submitted to article sites, from video submissions, directory submissions. Any number of sources.

The exact algorithms the search engines apply is a tightly kept secret, but what is generally held up as a fact of SEO is that without a large number of high PR back links, your sites will struggle to get anywhere in the search engines rankings.

You might have the most well designed site in the world, with a ton of interesting, original content. The simple fact is that without back links, your beautiful site is going to struggle against other, better optimized, link rich sites.

When I first started building back links I went the way most newbies go. I followed the advice of the experts and sent 100's of emails to other sites owners, asking for links. I rarely got any answers and quite understandably so.

Why would anybody with a weight loss site, offer my weight loss site a link? After all, we are competitors. Why send traffic my way?

I still submit dozens of articles and build dozens of blogs. These are great for the back links, but more importantly for me at least, each one of these articles and blogs is a great way for me to pre-sell my traffic.
